Our Background

"Ab normal home" is a rehabilitation and developmental centre for special children governed by “Ab normal home Manviy Sanshodhan sanstha”.

Few young psychologists working in the field of mental health came together with a vision of reaching out to every sector of society and individuals to make them capable of handling their life challenges. Concept of Ab normal home is of Mr. Pankaj Mithbhakare. Also Mrs. Kishori Pathak and Mrs. Anagha Adoni Mithbhakare are the founder members. Certain section of the society that is commonly referred to as mentally challenged people are the people deprived of normal mental and/or physical development. The statistic has proven that they form a large segment of the society whereas the work done for them always falls short.

With this in mind अब-Normal Home was founded in 2013 in the Gandhibhavan Campus Kothrud, Pune, as a development centre for “Special children; the undeveloped genes” of human kind. If these children are helped during early stages of their lives with academics and opportunities for becoming self-sufficient, they can take good care of themselves for rest of their lives with some help from the able people. At अब-Normal Home, instead of targeting single group or type of disability, a mixed group of differently-abled children has been formed. Every individual is attended to depending on his or her disability. A separate curriculum has been designed to cater to the individual capacity. Children with Intellectual disability, cerebral, palsy, autism, learning disorders, slow learner, down syndrome and ADHD are all part of this familly.

At AbNormal Home, when it comes to designing syllabus for every individual, we practice following theories

Howard Gardner's 'Multiple Intelligence (MI) theory: Each individual possesses a unique blend of 8 intelligences such as linguistic, mathematical, musical, spatial, kinaesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic.
Constructive learning: Every child should have opportunities of learning that pose challenges compatible to his/her learning level.

Mrs. Kishori Pathak

Director of Ab Normal Home

Working in the field of education, remediation and the director of “Ab Normal Home”, I always feel that the method of learning of every child is different and need to be taken into consideration while teaching the individual.
Also I feel that these special children are not abnormal but they are “Special” and to be treated specially. As they don’t follow the normal traits which we think should be followed, we call them as abnormal.
Instead of labeling them I personally feel, beyond their special behavior, he/she is a human being first and should be treated as human being. It is his/her right to live a normal life as everyone does.
First step of the same is “to accept” the child as it is, instead of labeling the child. “Ab-normal Home” is the place where child is not only accepted but also appreciated for his/her strengths.
I believe and have proved that miracles can happen using the strength of individual. My aim is to make special child independent, self-abled and live happily not only live happily but also enjoy every moment of his specialty.

Founder of Ab Normal Home

While working as a counselor, I realized severe challenges being faced by special children and their parents alike. They appeared visibly simple, seemingly trivial or mundane, but genuinely complicated and difficult to handle.
The issues of both – parents as well as special children were intricately woven – both entities having a direct bearing and impact on each other – positively and at times adversely too. The need to address functional challenges, earnest request from parents and inner concerning desire to shape lives of these innocent ones, germinated the resolve of establishing a School for them.
